Sports massage is suitable for all people. This type of massage is usually focused on a specific problem. eg a tender knee from running.

The aim is to return the patient to their desired activity with a better level of function. The techniques applied are usually more aggressive and approach muscles on a more deeper level. Due to overexertion and/or overuse, athletes are prone to injuries and lesions, massage can break them down quickly and effectively. The massage will help prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility.

Collectively, other modalities such as remedial, trigger point and deep tissue work will often be utilized during a treatment. The Practitioner will be able to detect any muscle imbalances that may develop or go undiagnosed. This will prevent any impeded performance and allow the patient to continue to maintain a much healthier physical state.

It is important to note that during a pre-event massage deep tissue work may cause too much of an increase in flexibility thus interfering with the athletes timing and strength.
